You Looking at Me????

By s1ngerman
One of the problems with the primate house at Port Lympne is the fencing and in most cases it is difficult to get close enough to blur them out. This image had a lot of specular highlights throughout as well as the wire of the fencing. Across the monkey's face I have cloned them out as best as possible and for the background I have used the burn tool to render it almost completely black. I have also used a little dodging and increased saturation to make the eyes stand out even more. Funny though it was only when processing the image I noticed the tongue partly sticking out. Adds a bit of humour to the photo perhaps.
I think this is a Guinea Baboon (Papio Papio) but I should have paid more attention to the notices on the enclosure and been more certain.

I can understand all you are saying and Port Lympne do keep you well back from the cages after the problems they had a few years back. Being just down the road from me it's a place I go to every few years.
The mod I have tried to balance the image a little by recovering the highlights and brightening the other side of the face a little, this also brings out the fur colour. The burning on the right didn't work too well so I have darkened that side, I hope to contrast with the bright side and to look like a dark shadow. I pushed the eyes and tongue a little to bring them out. Hope you like it and it gives you a few ideas.

Hi Robert, your mod does look great, bringing back the highlights has certainly improved the look of the fur, I really don't know why I hadn't noticed or done that already. When burning the background I was working only on the background and left the fur on the right visible but your mod which burns out the fur on the right certainly accentuates the face and draws the eye towards it more. Altogether I really like your mod and it definitely works, many thanks, Tom
