Such a disturbing image Malc. Whatever is going on? Is this something you have created or is it real? Almost mono with a slight bit of colour. I'm thinking it may be near where the homeless may spend the night.

Dust to dust... I didn't see the feet for a moment or so, they were a physical shock. I want to know more, as it stands my imagination is working overtime.

The feet are the shocking element here in amongst the detritus, implying that the body attached (I hope) is part of the detritus. Powerful stuff.

I can't add much to what has already been said by others, other than to agree that it is an image that asks more questions than it answers, Malc: I note you have not offered any explanation other than what may be suggested by the title. I could imagine it could show the aftermath of some terrorist attack or might be from a war torn scene.

Guess you will let us know that this is hopefully set up Malc
which I am keeping my fingers crossed.....and this being the case
you really have a great shot here...right down to the empty pill bottle and discarded cap, feet worn
out just in scene. Great as keep looking and finding more in this ...story!
powerful!!!

Malc you need to come back and explain, because this is an image that needs explanation. (Some don't, and in some cases it would actually detract.)
Three possible scenarios: a genuine disaster with loss of life; a vagrant sleeping rough, with around 50% desaturation (I suspect that this may be the case); or a museum mock-up. How we view, respond and analyse really does depend on the circumstances of taking. For example - if the second scenario applies, the man sleeping rough, then it's superb photojournalism but I wouldn't want too much fiddling with the colour, that tampers with the evidence so to speak. Straight colour, for the outer truth, or b&w, for the inner truth. Hope that makes sense.

Fascinating and disturbing in equal measure. I echo all the above . . . . especially as I thought you were going to a sculture park . . .

Its only when you see the feet that you start to wonder what its about and what has happened.
Good image malc
R.
I'm guessing that his is some exhibition of reenactment of an explosion or terrorist event, the feet are very chilling and the presence of "medical" items are there as well.
We see such things almost daily onTV so an exhibition with this in it would be an easy explanation.

Certainly brought all sorts of comments Malc.

Dougie

just noticed Bill's comment, could be a modern sculpture, gripping for sure.
A 21st century Tableau...?

Come out Malcolm we need to know?

Firstly, I must admit that that I deliberately avoided giving any explanation in the description, as I wanted to see what you were seeing, and how you interpreted the scenario, and not least your reactions.

I am pleased that people want, no indeed, need to know more.
I have succeeded in creating an image that tells without giving answers.

Moira (mrswoolybill) reckoned there were three possibilities. I am pleased to say that her first - a genuine disaster was wrong. I do not think I would have posted the image if that had been the case.
Nor is it a mock up display, exhibition piece or arranged scene.

The scene is exactly as I found it. I have not added to it, re-arranged any objects nor removed anything.

...except...the feet. They are imported, a stock image of dirty feet. I would love to accept applause for outstanding photo-journalism for a sleeping tramp, but it is not so.

This is the floor in a house that has not been occupied for years, apart from some tramps who seek refuge here in winter. The house in in thick woods, far off the beaten track.

What did I see in this and the title? A tramp sleeping off a binge? No. I saw the effects of some unknown terror or military incident, the hint of a body amongst the dust-covered ruins of a house. Hence the de-saturation, to attempt to replicate how it would look after the dust had settled...and silence had fallen.

Many thanks for all your comments - it was good to get reactions.

Yes, looking at the feet, I can see some evidence of cloning under them. Damn, should have spotted that...
Thanks for the explanation. It's effective and thought-provoking work (and the desaturation works a treat, dust plus death both implied). But I think it should have been uploaded under Digitally Modified. I really ought to report you to a Moderator...

Why don't you get your wife to tidy up your sitting room Malcolm. I see that poor old chap(you) is about a foot in front. Bloody marvelous.

You see Malcolm the difference between you and me is that I would have ignored the requests to know and just not explained the situation.
