Gare de Strasbourg-Ville after 4500 km ....

By bliba
..... and still 500 ahead of us WinkWinkWink

this year we decided to travel by train , went by Interrail from Linz /Austria (see version 1 ) , to Strasbourg , from there to Paris , on to Bordeaux and from there made trips to the beautiful Atlatic to the Basque country . unfortunately the devastating forest fires in the southwest of France put a spanner in our holiday plans ....but with the Interrail ticket we were flexible and changed our plans .
We were on the road in France for three weeks, travelled about 5000 km and there were hardly any delays and no waiting times and we saved up to 90% Co2 emissions compared to the plane.

My last Interrail trip was in 1995, when I was in England, Scotland and Ireland ..... Compared to then, Interrail has lost its spontaneity today. Today, you have to pre-book many trains - the long-distance ones - without a reservation, nothing works any more. instead, today everything is done via an app ...... timetable, ticket ....which also has its advantages.
We enjoyed the journey by train very much

thanks for looking

There's so much here to admire and learn from technically. The low pov, up close, with wide angle, balancing the in focus soles with that stretched leg... But mainly, the fact that this tells a story so perfectly. We've all been there waiting for public transport, you're in a sort of limbo, not in control of your life - the best approach is to sleep it out.

Fabulous lead shot...love Strasbourg... we're soon to embark on a rail trip from London to Hannover and the surrounding area, returning via Cologne...it's a pity we have to fly to London to get started...

Wonderful!
Train stations - coach stations - air terminals - sea ports - motorway service stations - been there, done that, felt the ennui - 50 years of international travel encapsulated in a single frame.

Love that lead image, Ollie - the tiredness of the long-distance traveller, almost before the journey has started.

Wonderful storytelling, Ollie. There's a greater sense of travelling, of being in an adventure, going overland or by sea, rather than just coming down out of the clouds into an airport somewhere or other. Then, as you say. there's the vital mater of emissions. A strange case of back to the future, and excellent images to set the scene.

The lead image conjures uptimes I felt the same, either waiting on trains or aircraft. There is little you can do but just sit it out. Your images invoke memories of the French railway stations, the large works of art that some of them have on display. How I envy your trip round Europe, especially after reading your notes, Ollie.

As the old saying goes” hurry up and wait” ….sounds like a fantastic family trip Ollie , one to remember after the kids have moved on ..
Best regards
