A really nice picture. If you have Photoshop you can use the Quick Selection Tool to put a surround around the Charlie and the hole in the metal. Anything else you do will then be limited to what is within the surround you have made so, select Image: Shadows/Highlights and reduce the highlights.

Yep...wideangler's spot on. Also try 'increasing shadow' too at the same time to darken it. Use in conjunction or separately. Whatever end result catches your fancy, basically.

That aside, fanTAStic pic. The idea and composition are brilliant...and she is SUCH a cutie.

Oh...and next time, try something else too (when taking the shot, that is): Step down the EV to -2/3, maybe. That'll reduce the glare on any fair subject which is set against a darker background.

Just a thought on a shot like this: take two shots, one that exposes the rust, and one exposing the head. Then place one on top of the other and rub through with an eraser in PS the bits you want from each shot.

Great idea Sam, and nice to see no waterfall in sight!!!!!

Agree with all of the above advice, OR, you could adjust for the face by pulling the curves down a bit, create a layer mask and then paint black over the metal board, taking great care when painting near to the circle. This will allow Charlie's face to be more under exposed and the rust board to remain as it was.
