Self Promotion

By sarah kruger
A self promotion card I am about to put out to try to attract more work. The photo is from a shoot I did last year.
I'd love to hear what you think of it.

I think the overal style and presentation is very classy Sarah but had it been me that was using this shot to promote I would have been inclined to take a side elevation which displays the bump with more impact, but nevertheless a theme of life that means a lot to people so good luck in promoting your work.

I like it too, could work well from the side too. One thing I find distracting though is bottom text. I feel the web and e-mail address and phone no. would look better if it was balanced more. Also your name isn't dead centre which creates more imbalance. Then again, maybe you don't want boring!
Good luck

Hi Sarah, I love the photo as is, but agree the text isn't quite right.... What if you put the web address along bottom left & the telephone no: other side & maybe on your website have your e-mail address, more than likely people would go to your website to see your work before they e-mail you anyway..... Heh, I think it's brilliant. Makes the mom's think you're ready for them from third trimester on up to college!

The shot I think is dead on, and the top text great too. I agree with some of the others that the text at the bottom is a bit out of balance with the rest of the card. Maybe a little space between your business name and the addresses? I'd be tempted to take your business name and center it more (i.e. based on the dominant part, the Sarah Kruger).

I think the best advice is to move the name and the addesses around as blocks until they looked balanced to you!

However, that being said, the photo is smashing and I think you're almost there with a great card!

Smile You did ask us what we thought!

Good luck!

Hi everyone -

You're right, I did ask what you all thought and I'm very pleased with the comments received - thank you all so very much. I did do the text a little different at the bottom, as Colin said, to not be boring. As a graphic designer, I do sometimes like to go against the rules a bit when it comes to layout. I will, however, considering everyones joint comment on it, relook at it and I'll post again. I also like the other suggestions on the name at the top - Baby Bumps is a good one. Baby Steps just came to me. I have actually done 7 different cards with different photos, so I'll post some more later probably.

Thanks so much for all your input again.

Hi Sarah! I like your work! Wish you the strongest of success with your card journey's. As for your title it is very cute.... I agree with many comments above here but would like to tell you that you have done remarkably well with this piece. Without wanting to cause any detours to the mind on the title.... I just couldn't help but to share with you what I saw when I look at the image before the words..... I looked and thought to myself " Baby Weighting" Since she is carrying a little one that is from the looks of it going to have the scale move up a bitSmile I am guessing nothing under 8 and 1/2 poundsSmile RicoChico

I think the card looks great, lovely clean lines and the image works well.
I'd agree about the centering of your name and would even suggest that you might look at stretching the word photographer so that it matches teh length of your name. This might look a bit messy but could possibly work well.
Then if you move everything towards the top of the page slightly you'd have room at the bottom to locate your details better.
Can't wait to see the others.

Hope you're well.

The image is spot on - well lit, sharp and nicely placed
As for the text, it does look as though its not sitting right in relation to the picture.
I feel everything should be central apart from your name - how about writing that down the right hand side as you look at the picture? That would create the variation you're after.
I think I would also place "Baby Steps" below the picture where your name is now but central.
I'm no designer at all but if you have a look at my purple rain, purple water and soft focus images (B&W) they have the writing placed down the side and I think it turned out quite effective
