The old Mersey Gateway..

By Satlight
Completed in 1905 the Runcorn - Widnes Transporter Bridge crossed the river Mersey and Manchester Ship Canal, it was Britain's first transporter bridge, and the largest of its type ever built in the world. The old transporter was closed in 1961as it was replaced by the cantilevering steelwork of the new Silver Jubilee Bridge as seen in the photograph, and now in autumn 2017 the new Mersey Gateway Bridge will be completed to take the modern day load off the Jubilee Bridge.
All that remains now is the old road which would have been used to access the transporter, can't imagine how it would have coped with 80,000 vehicles per day !
