For me the bird just doesn't "sit" very well in the image, maybe you need to look at darkening it using levels I've done it on PS but without having the original with all its layers it is hard to say, it hasn't been cut out or captured very well either. I have to disagree with Barbara and say the BG is great and probably the whole point of the work. Where did you take the BG image?
