Ice Bubbles...

By Scottishlandscapes
...under the ice on Lochan na h'Achlaise, Black Mount is at the top of the image. Bubbles are following me around it seems.

Well captured to get the bubbles. I guess it is because the ice is so thin that they get there

Gas rising from the vegetation on the Loch floor Peter, the ice was only about 1/4 inch thick.

Beautiful light on the wee lochan, great to see how the moor "works" even in winter time. You wouldn't see that gas rising if it wasn't for the ice. Well seen, and well taken shot, as every day!
It is cold, very cold here today. Siberian ice winds reached middle Europe. We're frozen stiff,

Another smashing shot Dougie. As ever I'm jealous, but I will be up Ben Lomond in a couple of weeksWink
Beautiful shot it must be so cold in Scotland. In Australaia very hot here around 38 degrees. Amazing how the seasons give very different results.

Great use of max. DOF to catch the detail of the bubbles so crisply as well as the distant Black Mount, Dougie: looks as if the boulders almost offer a set of stepping stones across the lochan.

That beautiful light seems to soften the texture of the rock. Superb composition, the eye just has to follow the lines around. Delicious rich tones in the left f/g form a solid base for the paler palette to the right and above.

Like the clarity of the water to be able to see the stones on the bottom, and also the reflection of the boulder. Nice bubbles under the ice and line of the ice against the rocks. Looks very cold up those mountains too Dougie. Moira

Good details and clarity in the water Dougie, the lower view point give a strong foreground

Even though the fg is filled to randen with detail, including that ice that looks like a sheet of glass placed on the water, it is the distant mountains that catch my eye, disappearing into the cloud, and the light from the left on the snow covered slopes.
I feel drawn there, they have a mystical look to them.

I can't get away from that large fg boulder. No matter how many times I come back to this image, it is too high. I feel it dominates too much. However, it is difficult to see what you could do with it, apart from taking a stick of dynamite with you next timeWink
What do you think, Dougie? About the boulder, not the dynamiteSmile

Edit: Having looked again, I see the perspective. A series of stepping stones. First step the rock bottom right corner, then the 'intrusive' boulder and last step the mountains....a perfect lead in if you see it.

I'm with Malc to an extent on this one. That big boulder almost stops the eye roving through the frame to the distant mountains. On the other hand there's so much to see in the foreground and distance the boulder doesn't quite block the view.
