I know the dessert well Dougie. As a man of the world I sometimes accompany it with some French fries...delicious... and so is this image with the mist rising just like a steam pudding.

The floating islands dessert is nothing like a steam pudding Danny as you well know, what are you doing on here on a Saturday?

Danny getting steamy thoughts this early in the morning? And ordering chips with his pud? I knew that civilization never reached the west of the valley but even so...
I like the idea that the rocks are floating in the sky. Even more I like the way this one plays with scale, those islands with trees seem tiny, compared with the contours of the distant shore. Teases the brain, does this one.

My only experience of that particular dessert was when our French twin school decided that a cookery lesson was in order for our group. Using all the ovens in a stone room with sealed, triple-glazed windows (the school lay under Concorde's flight-path about 5km from Charles de Gaulle airport) when the external temperature was almost 40°C proved too much for most of our students and removed any appetite for the dish that I might otherwise have managed . . . .

A magically beautiful image. (Yours, not my word-picture Smile)

I like to see shots where the exclusion of sky is appropriate, Dougie: adds to the air of mystery, as does the mist and side lighting here, producing an almost surreal effect.

delicious reflection, almost confusing the eye and turning it into an abstract. Very entertaining image with great hues and detail.

Your comparison awakened long-forgotten memories, Dougie. It is decades since I thought of, and tasted the delights of that particulaar dessert. I must find a recipe courtesy of our good friend google.
Your image is magical, captured, I would guess, at exactly the right moment to capture the atmospheric effect of that gently floating mist over the glass-like water.
One of your very best of late, not that that statemnet by any means is a negative comment on your other uploads, my friend.

Fine reflections Dougie. Īles flottantes for those who are interested is poached meringues floating on custard (real not Birds) drizzled with caramel. There's a recipe here from Raymond Blanc. The pun is really good and the picture is better than the pud. Smile
Great comment Alan and a good recipe too.
