Calanais Standing Stones...

By Scottishlandscapes
...these stones are older than Stonehenge according to Carbon Dating. It's impossible to stand here and not feel something special in the air.

Wonderful. There is something about these stones makes you feel very small in the scheme of things

Had to comment on this one - excellent shot of Callanish (I'd rather not use the official but pseudo-Gaelic Calanais!) - and also yesterday's in lovely Lewis light.
I must look out the best of my many hundreds of slides of this site, scan them and put them on EPZ - I lived a mile away from 1974-1984.

Stunning,evocative, atmospheric very well done.
Hi Gerald I look forward to seeing your slides, this must be one of the best places in Scotland and maybe even the World, 10 years, you'll have lots of goodies.

All the very best for 2008

I've never been there Dougie but these two shots are getting my travel urges going. It looks much more atmospheric than Stonehenge and probably more accessible. lovely shots, Happy New Year,

The enigma of the site comes over very well here Dougie and along with the use of the light to create the mood gives a fine impression of the place.

Mornin Dougie and a Happy New Year to you. Just seen in the New with a glass of Glenlivet then retired but had a bit of a lie-in
Dougie, it may have been a long ways to get there, but you sure came away with some great shots. That makes it all worth while.
This one is a beauty as silhouette shots go, I love the colour you have captured in the sky and the band of brighter light really works well behind the stones. I can see this one printed large and hanging on the wall.

Wonderful silhouette, certainly looking more enigmatic and more mysterious than Stonehenge.
Very best wishes,

2 great images of this magnificent spot. Both with their merits though for me this one, with the silhouette of the stones against the dark sky, embodies all the mystery of times gone by.

You really have cracked it with this one Dougie. Outstanding and that didn't happen by chance.. It happened due to your skills with the camera.

Wonderful place and you have captured the magic of it so well.

It truly is a very special place. I stood here about 10 years ago and found it quite exhilerating and a bit eerie too. This is a wonderful shot with an amazing sky which really does the stones proud.
