First Snow...

By Scottishlandscapes
...just a dusting on the very tops of Black Mount, but this is the start of the winter snow on Rannoch Moor, there may be more on Cairngorm I think.
I was secretly glad that it wasn't a white blanket covering Black Mount when I arrived, it looked more as I passed Ben Dorain as I travelled north.

Bitterly cold in the wind, the first real cold of the year too.

A beautiful landscape. A shame about the tree but it does speak of transience and change. I don't think I'm looking forward to the snow! A

Before I had read your description, I could see it was cold. Lovely to see the light dusting of snow and those changing colours. Nice one Dougie!

I guessed yesterday that when you said you were off you were heading for the Moor, Dougie: yes, a sign of things to come, some snow on the high tops already.
We have only started to see some autumn colouring and here's winter threatening.
As always you come home with such superb images from this area, and this is another beauty.
That's very kind Ronnie and kinder still your User Award, many thanks another reason to enjoy the snow arriving.

More photographic opportunities for you Dougie not that you need any. I admire the way you get off your backside and get out and about to find locations instead of being like me and others who lie in bed and say we have nothing to photograph.

Oh aye, see you had snow too. Ours didn't last, as the flakes were wet and the soil not yet frozen, but there we go again....
Superb capture of the Blacks, lovely tones in the water with the light lying on the ripples.
What else can I say than, BEAUTIFUL!

That does look so cold, Dougie. Beautifully framed along the sides with the outcrops of land leading our eye to the distant mountains.
Early for a topping of snow, or on schedule?
We are 'promised' snow down as low as 500 metres next week. Thankfully, we live at 250m above sea level so we are safe for another week at least. However, in 2001 we had the first snowfall in our garden the second weekend of October, so it is not far away.

I go to Skye in third week of month my companions are looking for snow and frost, plus the rut outside the cottage window, ni rest for the wicked it seems.

You never miss and opportunity Dougie and you always seem to be able to make the best of what you come across. This has much going for it, particularly the perfect framing placing the rocks as stepping stones through the frame.

Nice to see some snow on the Black Mount Dougie, wonderful POV as always, pity about the tree, hope you have a wonderful time in Skye, look forward to view your images. With regards to my last image, the best way to gain access is via the Kingshouse Hotel and then a walk across part of the moor to the waterfall. I tried to cross the water from the roadside but with no success. Hope this helps. Bill.
Thanks for that Bill, I had more or less decided that, but it's always good to hear it from someone who's actuallybeen there.
