...during a gap between snow showers I was shooting across Loch Torridon, this appeared out of the sky...
Very odd but makes for a great dramatic image
That really is peculiar Dougie - it looks like a giant mobile phone aerial. The mixture of lovely light on the hill and the showers is very atmospheric.
Looks like a tall cross delivering a ray of sunshine. How beautiful! .......Sandy
Beautiful, atmospheric image.
A really beautiful image, a very strange formation indeed, but a real bonus.
The light catching on the snow capped peak contrasts so well with the heavily shadowed f/g, Dougie: wonderful light and winter colouring, and it does look COOOOOOLD.
Excellent photo !! This is really a stunning image
An amazing sighting. Well caught.
Bizarre, never seen anything like that - I shall come back in the hope that someone with meteorological experience can give an explanation! I know you don't like sending photos to the BBC Weather people but they can be very informative on such matters.
Not "Krakatoa East of Inverness"?
Very striking; must have been amazing to see 'in the flesh'.
The light on that snowbound peak is fabulous.
In the Hands of the Gods here Dougie, another wonderful capture with some amazing lighting, Its surprising what nature can do at times, you were fortunate to witness and capture this scene, very well done, Bill.
Could be an "Exploding Haggis"
Whatever caused it its a once in a lifetime experience and very well caught. Well done!
how very unusual
Very interesting! Beautiful shot!
Beautiful shot !!!....love the light catching the top !!
Can't explain the cloud formation ??.....but even the name 'Alligin' has always sounded a bit creepy, so perhaps
there's some deep goings-on atop that craggy peak ???????.
Nice capture, Beautiful colours--------Milky
Thanks for all your comments and ideas, I have to say that the mark in my opinion is a snow drop or two which fell on my Lee filter, it's quite a big target.
I have to say that I was worried at firts when I saw it that all the images were marked, fortunately just a couple.
A nice apperance to make a fine image Dougie, good to be around and readyh when that happens
I prefer to ignore your somewhat fantasy-filled explanation, Dougie and believe instead in the supernatural as being a more realistic explanation.
No matter, it does nothing to detract from what is a magnificent view, beautifully captured. That brooding, threatening sky could just have produced such a phenomenon.
Well Dougie, whatever it was / is it has helped to exercise our thoughts
a great shot
How unusual Dougie but well caught good reporting
A beautiful capture, Dougie with lovely light and more of that stunning scenery.
A good comp here, even without unusual gaps in the clouds. The weather is the real star here; dramatic clouds and sunlit snow. It's great!
Fantastically atmospheric image. Super work Dougie.
Fantastic clouds and light falling on the snow dusted mountains.
And yet another excellent one! Ann.
Looks like an antenna.... aliens?
