Looks under exposed to me.... Try using the bracketing function

  • Playing things down

Like the toning, and the desaturated look.

  • Too hot!

I'd also say that she is obviously lit, but nothing around her is lit by the same light, and the shadow is in the wrong direction compared to the model light source. This makes the cut and paste much more obvious.

  • Girl washing her face in Kalighat alley, Kolkata, India

I love India - such a colourful country with great opportunities for candids like this. I worked in India for a year offshore, and travelling through Andra Pradesh, and also visits in Mumbai was a great experience.

I feel a longer focal length would have been better to give the girl more presence in the photo. I have added a mod where I have narrowed the image a bit, as I felt although the green was really colourful, it distracted from the girl, and the other items in the alley.

Personally, I like the fact that the image seems to lean a bit - India is a bit 'wonky' at times, and emphasises the fact that this is a candid rather than a posed picture. So many potential photos for the grabbing!

    Kind Regards,

  • Semarang Buddahs

    Thank you both for replying!

I've thought about recropping, and I can see how cropping from the 2nd Buddah would work.

I was thinking about the lamp post, but my cloning skills to remove it are limited. I'm sure I could do it, but my eye will always be drawn to any flaw I see.

John - If I get a chance to revisit, I will go a bit wider on the left. Now I know what is there, I'll bring my 12-24mm lens. That might help, but the other thing constricting me was the cars in the car park, and that is why I now see how a different crop would help.

    Cheers for your advice!

  • Curves

I had to look twice to see what was the balcony and the back wall! It drew me in, and therefore is very deserving of a vote!

However, I would suggest straightening the photo a little bit, it looks a bit lop sided to me.

    Looks good though! Grin

Nice shot, but I'd go without the grain... And I don't think Tosh's comment on the title is really relevant - it's the photo we comment on, not so much the title...

  • Really like your showcase, well done! Didn't know what photo to leave a comment on, as I would have been here all night leaving a comment on all of them!
