By scuttlefish
Is this a moth or butterfly? Found it clutching to a stem of grass at my local reservoir yesterday. Looked like a yellow petal but on closer inspection I was surprised with this specimen. It's about an inch in size. I'm afraid that this is the best of a bunch due to a strong breeze blowing it out of focus.

Yes Scuttlefish, it's a Brimstone, with curled wings, possibly freshly emerged from its pupa which is why they are drooping down.

Great find

hehe, nice one. I saw one of these yesterday and wondered what it was (thanks Julian), couldn't get a decent shot like this though.

Many thanks for the I.D. Julian. Butterfly species, latin name of Gonepteryx rhamni according to Google. Thanks for giving it a name, much appreciated.

Sharp eyes on your Brimstone . Think it may be a female , as I think Males are darker .
