Xylaria hypoxlon

By shaun
Another from the Epping Forest meet 2006.

Commonly known as the Candle-snuff, these little fungi were only just over 1cm tall and had not yet developed the usual antler top. It was only when I got home and saw these large that I noticed the microscopic hairs coating them!

Thanks guys. Its very easy to miss something this size. As I was setting up next to them our illustrious Epping meeting organiser Chris (Lobsterboy) came walking through and nearly trampled on them!
