Levaillant's Cisticola

By ShedMan
Every now and then a bird will oblige by posing for you. This Levaillant's Cisticola came and sat on a grass stem about 2m away from me, facing into the sun. It posed there just long enough for me to get four good shots. This is the best of them.

P.S. Other than cropping (1200 x 900) and resizing to 600 x 450, the only post processing was a little noise reduction and very minor sharpening - everything else is as it came off the camera.

Lovely capture, I like the natural setting with no feeding station set up. It should give you a great deal of satisfaction. Sylvia

Thank you, Sylvia, it does give me great satisfaction because this is such a small bird (about the size of a wren) and it's not often you get this close to them in the wild. Funnily enough, it was me who was at the feeding station! We had arrived at Northern Farm (Diepsloot Nature Reserve, near Johannesburg) just after 6am and had stopped by a small lake to eat our breakfast. As I leaned against the car to photograph birds on the lake, this little guy appeared in the grass right in front of me. Right place, right time I guess!

A lovely shot, Graeme, with good detail, a nice catch of light in the eye and in very natural surroundings.

It is very evident that you used Noise Reduction as the breast plumage appears soft and the sharpness has vanished leaving the bird soft. Also try to leave more space in front of the bird to give it room.
