Flight

By accipiter
Many thanks for the CC's on the transparent fly. Sorry I have not been around to look at all your pics but will catch up soon.
I have taken a few shots but have had no time to process so I am uploading some from a little while back.
I am very fond of images of birds in flight. I used to make a comfortable living painting wildlife at one time and specialized in raptors. I did do several pictures of waterfowl in flight and they sold well. I had an ongoing argument with my artistic friends who did superb paintings of birds up close. I felt that we don't really 'see' birds that way - they are nearly always small and in big surroundings. They are part of a 'skyscape' on many occasions and I have tried to show that here.
V1 ( Four Wigeon) are wigeon against a sky you have seen before.
V2 (Dropping In) are Mallard - any one who has watched waterfowl will recognize the cupped wings and body of mallards dropping fast toward water.
V3 (Gadwall sky) are a pair of Gadwall against an evening sky on the Somerset levels. These are uncommon and rather elegant, slim duck and the pairs fly circuits frequently over their chosen haunts in the breeding season.
I hope you like them. A

Have to agree that these really should have been on their own rather than a set as they are all so beautiful. As it is, a superb set with such blissful lighting and amazing details which only your skills and great timing could have produced.

3 very effective and cleverly compiled images, Arthur: I am assuming from what you say that these are compilations, so I hope in stating that I am not causing any offence.
My immediate reaction to V 1 was to remember Peter Scott's paintings from the Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust.

As we have seen the sky before I am wondering the same thing as Ronnie - did you superimpose the ducks - I like it very much and the accompanying images to but I am not sure if in fact I have fully understood your intro, could I be right - I wonder!

Many thanks for all your lovely comments - and yes, these are composites . The shots of birds and Sky were all taken in the same locality ( at different times of day) except for the sky in V1 which I have used before. You will notice that I have stated under 'Tags' that the images have been digitally manipulated. If you look back in my portfolio you will see at least four or five other uploads of similarly manipulated images for all of which the information is clearly stated that they are composite images that have been manipulated. I like making lovely pictures of birds in flight as I said in my intro.
No offense taken and I am glad you enjoyed them.
Special thanks to Shellio for her UA. A
