Dual Reward

Taken at a workshop on Tuesday. I've always admired these images, but have had concerns regarding the use of glass or perspex based tanks that are often used to entice the birds to dive in a pre-determined spot. Such tanks are often invisible to the birds and can lead to harm. In this case the pool used has clearly visible sides and bottom and is lined with a protective foam minimising any risk. All is needed then is decent light, a bloody fast shutter speed, good timing on the shutter release using a camera with a fast frame rate and good noise control, and a healthy dose of good luck. I am thrilled with the result, and it makes a bloody good print too!

The flying water droplets make this for me. Interesting to read your description, I have been rather worried by reports of some set-ups that are used.

Yes you are right! You have a camera with a great frame rate like a machine gun, and hey presto a shot like this is possible.
But the photographer has to make the shot, never mind the impressive abilities of the camera. Superb shot. UA will have to awit until tomorrow. David

Clever kingfisher, but then he has had a lot of practice. Amazing capture, congratulations.

Excellent image. Have to confess that I usually find the ' kingfisher sat on a twig' images rather boring but yours is completely different . The image seems to leap off the screen probably due to the excellent lighting. Also, the water droplets give a kind of 3D effect and the two fish just add the finishing touch ! Must have taken a lot of patience to get that shot Grin
