Angel of Inner Farne

By simon_stacey
A backlit Arctic tern hovers in front of St. Cuthbert's chapel on Inner Farne.

This image just about sums up my experience of a visit to Inner Farne. A delightful combination of birdlife and religious history. Of course, anyone who has been near an Arctic tern nesting ground in early summer knows that these vicious creatures are anything but angels! Still, if I had flown all the way up from Antarctica to breed, I would probably be pretty aggressive in defending my nest too.
