Lunch 13

By SimonFletch
Thanks for your votes and comments on Lunch 12, especially the amusing ones Smile

Lunch 13 is of a Grey-headed Kingfisher, taking off from a thorny bush in Tsavo East, Kenya's largest game park. Unlike most Kingfishers, this one is not aquatic and feeds on insects (like the one in this ones beak). It migrates at night and many are killed by flying into buildings & powerlines...Sad

When this image was taken, we were staying in a camp beside the mighty Galana River and my biggest memory is of giant moths, literally hundreds of them, fighting to get into my pint of 'Tusker'. A saucer, placed on top of the glass was pushed off by these brutes. I have one, in a cigar tin, as a souvenir. If anyone would like to see it, let me have your name, address and postage costs!

All in the interest of science...Smile

A well detailed shot Simon.
And may I have your moth ?
My wife hates them and runs out the house if one is indoors.
She says she will not come back in until I have got rid of it !!
I have no money to pay for the postage cost however,
but I do have a nice collection of rusty washers though !!

A cracking shot of this brightly coloured little bird taking off with its meal, you've timed this one to perfection. I think the Big O, epzer AdeOsman will be very interested in that moth of yours with him being epz's moth expert, I doubt he'd pay you anything though he's as tight as Mikbee with his money!WinkGrin

Great shot Simon but I will definitely 'pass' on the moth and postage come to that. Cathy

A beautiful and quirky looking bird. Interesting information too Simon. I will avoid Africa and the moths.
