Lunch 137

By SimonFletch
Greetings everyone. Thank you for your Votes and Comments on 'Lunch 136 - The Grey Heron'. A special mention goes to Kathryn , for her highly valued User Award.

"You are back in Scotland now so when do we get lunch shots of people scoffing deep fried Mars Bars?" asked Lynne. "Not recommended to take a pic of anyone scoffing their deep fried Mars Bars.... You will get a Glasgow Kiss from them !!". answered Mick, explaining that a Glasgow Kiss is Scottish for 'head butt'.... "deep fried Mars bar", Lynne..?! Yuk - and I don't even need to taste one. Sounds revolting - as does a 'revolting' Glaswegian...! I don't mean Glaswegians are revolting, I mean the idea of a Glaswegian revolting and giving me a kiss is revolting Tongue Blush

I get accused of telling 'tall tales', but Andy took the biscuit yesterday... "I once saw a heron take a fish ...... the size of a small canoe ..... it was so big the poor bird couldn't take off and had to walk away.". Hehe, I have visions of a Heron, with a canoe-shaped stomach, waddling along the riverbank, wings unable to lift the weight... Wink Grin Mind you, Andrew's description of yesterday's Heron upload, "its neck is all pretzelly" - that pretty much "took the biscuit", too Smile

Today's 'Lunch'
.... is the Speckle-fronted Weaver, eating grass seeds. I am doing okay here - must be well and truly into Carol's good books Wink

The Speckle-fronted Weaver (Sporopipes frontalis) is a tiny bird, 4.5" (11cm) has a spectacular black-and-white-speckled forecrown and moustachial stripes. Small flocks forage on the ground and breed in Acacia trees. Its untidy grass nest has an extension in front of the entrance and is low down, unlike most Weaver birds nest, which hang from the end of branches.

The Speckle-fronted Weaver is an uncommon bird, living in dry, open savanna in western areas of Kenya. In other words, there are not so many of them and I am delighted to have seen it at all..!!

Have a Theocentric Thursday, eveyone ...!

A splendid little bird beautifully captured.

The spotted headgear is a very smart fashion statement that I might well replicate if ever invited to a formal occasion. I think I'll pass on the moustache though.

Does Theocentric mean we have to gather round the TV and watch re-runs of The Cosby Show?

Three fabulous captures you've got here, Simon. Kudos. Especially with the timing in V3 where you've got him mid-chomp.

But V1 has to be the best with him proudly posing and showing off those handlebars Smile
