Drummore Harbour, Dumfries and Galloway

By sjcphotography
One of my favourite posters on this site, Saastad, mentioned that I haven't upload any images for while, so I had to change that.

This was shot just after Midnight, when I was heading home. The scene "jumped out" at me, demanding to be photographed. Normally the colours would have faded long before now, but it was a very still and clear night.

Great that you have started to post again Steven. I really hope it will come more too.
I think you have captured a very beautiful motiv and the colors and the composition is very fine. Maybe it could have been a little more space in the bottom, and some more details in the dark areas!
But good work, and i am looking forward to the next!

Arne, thank you for your highly valued award and respected critique. Ideally, I wanted to compose the image with all of the boats reflection on the water in the shot, with some space between the reflection and the edge of the frame. However, I had to compromise, due to having to shoot over a fence and vegetation intruding into the bottom of the image, some of which I was able to remove by hand, but not all of it. If I composed as I wanted to, some of the vegetation and perhaps the fence would have gotten into the shot and I didn't see the composition this way. I reduced the original shots exposure to darken the image, but I could lighten it, in view of your critique, to see if this improves the image.

Regards

Steven

Then i understan why it is like that. And if you have darken the picture to get it like that, it is about taste. Your taste is the most important here Steven. Often when i take pictures like this i use a graduated grey filter on the sky, so the different between the sky and the water dont get to big. If you lighten up the hole picture now, the sky will get to much light. If you have the possibility to lighten part of the picture with your software it can be better. Smile Arne

I like darkness of his image it creates atmosphere the beautiful orange glow as the sun disappears the boat in the foreground adding shape and structure.
