Inspired by all the comments on The Seagull has Landed, and by a recent picture by Nick_W Gotham City, I thought I would have a go at a similar long exposure (upshot???).
This is the result. Number One Tower Block (Lipstick Tower) in Portsmouth's Gunwharf standing 101metres tall.
A 4.5 minute exposure using a Lee Big Stopper as well as a Lee Solid ND1.2 - giving 14 stops in total (it was a very bright day).
I hope you like the result, I know its still a long exposure, but this style of shot is very new to me and I really enjoyed the challenge.
Thanks for looking and to all those that clicked and commented on yesterdays upload.
I got a pain in my neck looking up at this tall building Mark ! Excellent photo !!
Long exposures really enhance architecture images I think Mark and this is no exception. The streaking clouds isolate and frame the building whilst simplifying the comp. They also enhance the sleek lines of glass and steel while your mono converstion really brings out the rhythm of the building structure. When you couple that with a less usual PoV and a symmetrical comp you've created a really powerful and effective image with lots of impact. Congratulations and I think you should take this as an end to your 'photographer's block' you were discussing yesterday!
very impressive shot Mark, well done.
A fantastic image, Mark, very different from your usual seascapes, but most impressive Carol
A wonderful 'wash' sky and tones, Mark. Similar but very different and definitely your style.
this is stunning mark top top shot
I feel queasy looking at this...................nice image...........
Awesome image Mark.....more of these please!
I wouldn't have thought of a long exposure in this respect - excellent work Mark
making the most of the sky and I like your perspective.
I'm really glad you tried something different, this is fantastic
Time flying by above - the structure immobile - nice take, lovely pov.
Great change, what a pov
There's a lot to see looking up - something I once promised myself to investigate, but haven't yet! Well taken Mark - I think you're off on a new journey!
A brilliant image, Mark, one of your best images i reckon, superb composition, well thought out and executed, nice work.
Excellent work Mark - truly impressive
Mark, this one came right out the page at me........and moves into my fav Mark shot. A fantastic comp with a great tone to it. A little imagination and could be a wing or a path in the sky......such a 3d effect. Strong detail and line used here.........would be very pleased with this one mate....a little skeet UA..............nice job.
A very creative POV, Mark. The building almost looks like a pier stretching out into the water.
I love these types of shot Mark, excellent image really well executed
Cracking image of one of my favourite buildings.
