Styhead Frozen

By Skinz
Taken at the end of a perfect days climbing. Styhead Tarn was frozen and the sun was so low - despite risking not getting off before dark I had to shoot this (I had a head torch by the way). I used a P121 Grey Grad to keep the detail in the sky.

There is a larger shot of this on my website. You can visit the gallery by clicking here.

Blue photos are sometimes over melancholy, but balanced nicely here with reddish tones on rocks and in the reflection. Hope you had an emergency bivvy!

I've just posted my shot of this from last summer. Similar composition, but yours has much better lighting, detail and overall interest. Guess I'll just have to go back and try again...

Hi Rich

I have been loooking at your portfolio following your kind remarks to one of my photos.

I don't know how it is that I have missed your work in the Gallery because your landscapes are superb and this one in particular is stunning.

Why Pete hasn't seen fit to give this an EC I'll never know but it gets one from me!

I have to agree with Barrie, as I've just seen your portfolio, I was wondering the same why you haven't been awarded an EC. Anyway stuuning shot!

I think the EC is not an award that credits the merit of a photo or the photographer in the same way as the OSCARS or a BAFTA do for film (OK, over the top comparison). It's more of what Pete likes and what catches his eye. I've seen many images that I feel are EC worthy but then that is what I like, Pete might not think so.

It all comes down to the likes and dislikes of people. I'm happy getting great comments and advice from superb photographers, an EC would be nice but in the words of Wayne, "I'm not worthy".

This can be a pretty desolate place at the best of times and I think you've captured the mood perfectly. Great shot.
