My Comfort Zone

By SlowSong
Tate Modern's Turbine Hall taken in practically total darkness except for the bright projection on the back wall, mono conversion with slight split tone and added noise.

The man in the middle of the pic is actually standing on the remains of another installation artwork - the crack.

Strong lines, asymmetry contained within a square, random anonymous humans giving life to the frame - this is my comfort zone too, I love it. I'm seeing this as the cover for a Kafka novel...
Assuming that tripods aren't allowed, you're going for some very brave exposures - I'm guessing camera sat on handbag?? Wink I think I'd take the high ISO route, would be interesting to compare results.

I'm guessing camera sat on handbag? A useful handrail. Smile I always forget about upping the ISO. I really must try it just to see what sort of grain I get naturally in camera (although this may produce other unwanted artefacts). Good reminder Moira. Thanks. Smile

A super capture, Carol, wonderful lighting. The inclusion of the man really gives it a sense of scale, which would be difficult to judge without him Smile

Superb stuff this, Chris. Perfection in mono. Love the low light and use of diagonals in the compo. Glad you explained the crack!

Fantastic lines and shadows! The photo could be in the exhibit too. The two small people make it perfect. What a great shot!

Brilliant. My first thought was that that back wall projection reminded me of Queen's Radio GaGa video before the masses arrive or after they have left. Very 1984 also.

I am going to enter the Gable wall of my house for the next Turner prize as it has a large vertical crack however I couldn't make such a fine picture out of it as you have. Excellent.

The single figure in the image adds to the surreal feel here....a real sense of the "littleness" of humans in these vast structures (that we built!) What a terrific comfort zone! Really excellent image....
