An Old Friend

By SlowSong
I visited the V&A today especially to see the new photo galleries and was delighted to find my very first camera nestling in a rather lovely display of vintage models. (The glass case was quite grubby hence the smears and spots). The Brownie 127 had no settings, you just pointed and snapped, but I loved it. I especially liked using the flash bulbs; they were exactly that, as most of you will remember.

I developed my very first roll of film at our school's youth club, one frame of which was a picture of the Beach Boys Pet Sounds album. I can't find that particular image, but the version is one of me taken with the camera and one that I printed off of that first roll. Luckily I did get a lot better at it. Smile

I can beat that! My first camera was a Box Brownie, which had a wire square frame you pulled out from the side and you took your picture by looking through it. Mind you happy times! A touch of nostalgia?

Happy memories, disastrous photos...
And isn't it strange when we find that our lives are museum-pieces.

I love to look at these old cameras---remembering when--- My mother had a camera that requited one to set the aperture and shutter speed--- I have it now-- would need film, etc to make it work-- She never let me touch it!

Blimey, think I had one rather like this, if not the same model! Love the selfie in the version, Chris, looking very glamorous 👍
