I am immediately reminded of the paragraph in The Diary of a Nobody in which Mr Pooter concocts a pun on the names of his two friends, Gowing and Cummings, a joke that they do not appreciate. Of course the joke is not funny - but only Pooter fails to realise that.

However, since I am a bit pooterish myself, I'll desist BlushBlushBlushBlushBlush
