Dining al fresco, Old Style

By SlowSong
Some more people who were on our walk around Hidden London. Here we saw an old oven built into a wall around the back streets near St Paul's. Even the tour guide didn't know what it was for or why it was outside. An interesting object, but was I the only one paying attention? Grin

Must admit I haven't seen it when I lived there

Could be a communal bread oven, Chris. Looks more elaborate than those that survive round here.
Interesting that one has apparently survived so close to the City, where I would have expected it to be privatised Blush

Near to St Paul's? How extraordinary. The ladies seem not to be able to decide what they make of it.
I'm looking at a square crop, it works for me, creates a triangle of interest.

My neighbors have an oven that is outside-- They bake in it oce in awhile--- best if you have 20 or so pies and the same number of loaves, plus dinner and a couple of chickens extra-- it is wood fired!

This is a great candid!

Hi Dave

I think it was just round the corner to this church. There are so many little churches, corners and squares around this area I can't remember the name of the street but I'm sure it was in this area. There's lots of links on the web so if you find the church, you'll probably find the oven. Smile

Either that or this one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Michael_Paternoster_Royal which is linked with the Mission of Seafarers.

After a while all little churches tend to look the same so it is definitely round the corner to one of these. Smile
