Thanks for taking a look at my portfolio. My name is Gordon, and I am based on the Fylde coast in Lancashire. I take mostly landscape photos, with the odd flower or wildlife picture if I get the chance. Hope you find something you like.

Gordon

  • Girl With A Rose

In processing, I did try adding more red to her lips, but decided it made her look a bit 'cheap and tarty'! Maybe I didn't do it very well. Anyway, I quite like the pale and interesting look.

  • Yellowstone Wolves

The closest we got to wolves in Yellowstone was about 1km away, viewed with a spotting scope, so well done on this.

  • The Calm Before Ciara

I've taken one from a very similar position. With the rising tide and feeling very precarious on the rocks I only managed two shots before giving it up as too risky. At least you got something for your efforts.

  • Final Glow

Agree with Alf - lovely image, but you don't need all the cloud at the top.

  • Protector

Beautiful simple composition. I like that you've been careful to keep the reflection of the entire lighthouse.

  • Dancing In The Dark

I've added a version without flare just for comparison.

  • The view from Bualach na Ba

Been over the pass twice and seen the inside of a cloud both times! Now I'm even more disappointed.

    A very serene image.

  • Callanish Sunset

Hi Maureen, what would be better would be a Lewis sunset (the clue is in the title)!!! Grin

  • At The Forge

Mostly luck - just rattle off a few pictures and hope one of them caught the right moment.

  • A New York Minute

The 1.3 second exposure was the one with the static man, so I used that as the base (hence the EXIF data). The longest was 15 secs which gives an almost empty building.

  • Frosty Trees

It's pretty much the colour that came out of the camera - just a bit of contrast and clarity adjustments. There's a river running through the trees and the moisture from the river freezes on the trees.

  • Sunset

This is a lovely shot that is a pleasure to work on. I agree that the foreground looks a bit flat, but the sky is pretty much spot on. I've used Nik Filters to lighten the centre and darken the outside, combined with a little detail extractor. That has the effect of adding more contrast into the foreground and adds a bit of sharpening. I've removed the post, rotated slightly to level the sea and desaturated the green roof. Finally I've added a bit of lightening to the path to give a bit more of a lead-in. Hope you like it.

  • West Pier - sunset

Beautiful sunset and composition. A small point, but I love the birds sitting on the posts.

  • Lytham Jetty II

Took a look at your portfolio for your other version, and I think I prefer the mistier atmosphere of this version. Nice shot.

Late to the party, but have an award.

I think they're following me around. They turned up in Cornwall a few months ago as well!

  • Deep Bass & Thoughts

I quite like that his hands are slightly blurred, adds a bit of movement to his playing.

An immediate award winner. Is this Mad Max?

I visited Godafoss some years ago before being into photography. This makes me want to go back and hope for a shot as good as this.

  • Aberdeen beach

The sweep of the wave beside the fence really enhances the sense of movement across the image.

I'm looking for inspiration for a Still Life competition. Might think about something like this.

Visited there a couple of months ago. It just takes patience, waiting for the crowds to clear!

  • Menorcan Night Sky

Went back to check this out after seeing your most recent Milky Way shot. I've tried a few times, but this beats my efforts (larger sensor helps!) Just wanted to add that your bright 'star' is Mars and you've also got Saturn in the picture - one of the bright stars right in the middle of the Milky Way (from a check on the Stellarium program that maps the night sky).

  • Bamburgh Dawn

    Dudler,
Thanks for the comment and taking time to compare images. I was looking at older pictures as I enter a few photo competitions and was looking for potential images. Judges are very critical of sharpness, and the older version was a bit soft on the rocks on the right, so I decided a different shot might be a better starting point for re-visiting the processing.

Wonderful texture in the beard, and you always manage such luminosity in the eyes.

Lovely and sharp, and the fish adds that bit extra.
