And - though maybe not in my lifetime - also free of the buildings that pollute it... I'm quite fond of the Gherkin, but the rest are, in my mind, pointless phallic symbols for the money men.
Sky line cranes are a sign of prosperity and economic growth which I agree are an eyesore. I remember the last economic decline where most of the cranes vanished from the major capitals signalling doom and gloom.

Have to agree John that the buildings are fat-cat penis extensions Smile

I remeber going to the London Planetarium in around 1967, and seeing a show about the sky over London for that night.

All round the edge of the dome were the high points of the skyline - St Paul's, Tower Bridge, the GPO Tower (which I'll let off for being useful: the idea that everything should be useful or beautiful).

Now it's the Shard and the Telephone... And a risk that London may cease to be a historic city, and just be a money centre...
