On the Coffin Route

On the Coffin Route from Grasmere to Rydal Water. Part of this route is along the old Coffin road, so called as it was the route used to take the dead of Rydal to the church in Grasmere for burial.

Lots of those in Cumbria, and they were also known as 'corpse roads.' I've walked one, from Swindale across to Mardale... a hard journey if you're lugging a coffin I reckon.
