Not an expert on portraits (or anything some people woud say), but here are my thoughts.

Firstly it is a nice family portrait. Your son looks relaxed and as if he is having fun.

A shot many parents would love to have taken or to take themselves of their child.

I particularly like the relaxed nature expressed by the fly-away hair.

As you have posted in the critique section I make the presumption that you would like ideas to improve it.

So here are a few things I would have done, not necessarily the correct things, but would give a different image.

1) at the moment it looks a bit like an advert for next shoes, so bare feet could be another option

2) there are a few harsh shadows, particularly across the face. Trying to soften these with a diffuser or fill them with a reflector, either could even out the appearance.

3) the eyes look a little closed, perhaps again due to the harsh light. I would perhaps try a backlit portrait with some fill provided by a reflector. That hair would look good backlit somewhat.

4) Compositionally I'd just back off a fraction so that your sons right foot is not touching the edge of the frame.

Would I have been happy to have taken it yes, but as you have time to make changes the above are a few suggestions.
