Bride and Groom

Tried my hand at a few wedding shots at a friends wedding we attended on wednesday.thought id post this just to get a bit of feedback from you guys, the dress was a bit blown out so adjusted shadow and highlights in cs3 and added soft focus using picasa.
thanks for taking time to view and comment.

Without going into anything at great length it is always a bit difficult to get great wedding shots from the sidelines as the official photographer tends to get all the eye contact shots, whereas without either knowing the couple and asking them beforehand to look at you occasionally or shouting to them to gain attention, they will all be like this.

Nothing at all wrong with it all all but it does limit your possibilities somewhat. I am not over keen here on the soft focus, I never used it for weddings as more often that not the couple want sharp focus as they are generally young and blemish free! Compositionally I would like to see more space added to the LHS the direction in which they are looking, it just gives better balance overall to the shot. Doing what you have done is excellent as it does give you a feel for what the professional is about and gets you sort of, into it and the involvement is always good practice should you ever be asked to be the official guy. Your EXIF is good for the position as your 5.6 will ensure that the background is not sharp, although being that close to the hedge behind, neither will it give good differential focussing, but sufficiently so for your shot.

I will upload a mod to give you my take on the situation.

thanks frank you have just undone my crop on the original shot i see where your going and thought the same my self shes pointing so should have left it in but just thought id give it a bit of a tighter crop?, the soft focus just thought it worked live and learn.

The blur doesn't work for me, I'm afraid. From the thumbnail, I thought that it was an attempt at 'tilt/shift.'
The couple look happy and relaxed though and sufficiently unaware of you that it probably counts as a 'candid.'
They're obviously off-duty at this point and she's drinking champagne (I guess) but I'm not sure that he'll thank you for catching him with a bottle in his hand!

Bren's point is very valid . This is a reportage wedding picture, a style that is very popular. The photographer goes around just snapping away but would in most cases surely not capture the groom drinking from a bottle!
