Up close

By SteveMoulding
I was surprised and delighted at the response to my last upload as it was just a record shot, thankyou.
A quick upload today as I'm straight out with the camera to the WWT Arundel. I will try and catch up with you later.
A beautiful Common Eider Duck, another experiment in exposure but not sure if some of the white is blown. Always difficult to get right when you have a mixture of black and white.
Have a great day, I hope to and get some half decent shots into the bargin.

Nice image but I thought it was a tad dark and lacking a bit of detail in the eye. I have put up a mod have a look and see what you think.

It's difficult with blacks and whites in relatively strong light. Do you minus EV, plus EV or go neutral. It's a conundrum.

The blacks on the head seem a wee bit too underexposed to me. Could be my screen and ambient light, though.

This could be solved with highlights depending on the software you have.

Still...good capture, Steve.

The exposure looks pretty good to me. Yes, whites are difficult with digital!
A lovely shot btw!

Wonderful picture. Viewed large is breathtaking.
I think the whites are fine! I really like Dave's modification though as the darks were maybe a tad too dark. Shows that it was all there, just needed a little bit of tweaking. So a great shot! Black and white is always a challenge. Well done. Smile
I hope you had a great time at Arundel today. Are the reed warblers back??
