Nicely done! In dodgy areas I always shoot in RAW and composite the images after, as you would with HDRI, though I never knew I was doing something so technical! I find RAW very forgiving, and it could have helped you to bring up the shadows a bit and keep the detail.

Perfectly captured though - just hovering there! Really shows the speed he was going and the skill needed to get such a clean shot.
