Cruachan Power Station, near Oban in Argyll, is one of only four pumped storage power stations in the UK.
The site is unique in that the power station is concealed within the hollowed-out rock of a mountain, Ben Cruachan.
Only the 316 metre-long dam at the top of the mountain, the offices and visitor facilities are visible from the road, preserving the landscape's scenic beauty.
