" You talkin' to me"?

By Stmarkus
Basically just stalking the wild beast . Trying to capture a decent click while getting as close as possible ( about 6 ft. ) before he got scared and ran.As far as exif data, I upload to my iPad from camera, but still have no idea how to automatically include this data when I upload from iPad to gallery. Sorry!

Good shot. Depth of field OK on this one. Would crop the top to just above his head. The out of focus body is not needed. Might just give the contrast a boost.

I have just found your forum thread, Mark, where you say, "While I appreciate the help and critique I might receive, I prefer not to have my photos modified. Can someone tell me how I might opt out of this, also how might I include the settings data that people ask for". I think it would be helpful if you mentioned this in your "Description" above.
I was about to do a modification, but respecting your wishes, I have declined. I would have cropped the top, as suggested already by Paul, and also the right side, bringing the head over to the right of the frame, and making it less central. I would then have selectively sharpened the eye.
As was explained in the forum, critiquers like to demonstrate their suggestions by providing you with a modification so that you can better understand their comments.
You can easily add your Exif Data manually. Just click on Options under the photo, then select Edit, and open Exif - you can fill in the details and then Save. Also, at the time of uploading, you can fill them in manually.

Mark, - dont post photos for Critique if you prefer not to have mods made. The entire point of the Critique Gallery is to allow a Critique to show you what they are referring to by uploading a mod.

Post to the general gallery, and make sure you disable mods.

Its a complete waste of our time having your uploads in this Gallery if you have no intention of accepting modifications as suggestion about how you can improve your photography. This is what this Gallery is for, - learning. And we volunteer our time to do this.

Your iPad may well not have the exif data thats appended to the original shot, - that would be on the camera, or in the software you used to download the image. On the load page, you will see, on the right, about half way down, a link for More Exif Options, - click it and any data is automatically appended.

I will upload a mod, - as its what this Gallery is about.

I'm with Willue. No point putting images in if you are not prepared to have them modified. We are modifying them verbally if not actually every time we pass comment. What is the difference.

Okay, before anybody else gets their knickers in a twist , if you had bothered to read my reply to the site moderator in the forums, and not just part of my initial question, as quoted above, you would know that I thanked him for his explanation for someone adding a mod, and am well aware that there are other galleries to post in should I not want a mod or critique. Since I elected to continue to post here, it should be apparent that I do welcome any and all constructive criticism.
However that being said, adding a mod without saying what it is or why its been added, is, if I may quote Willy, " a complete waste of time". So if I may , please, if you take the time to look at my work and decide a change is in order, please let me know what you did, and how, as I do appreciate that your time and experience is most valuable. I am here to learn.

Thanks much,

Mark

I have never uploaded a mod without an explanation. The explanation is almost always in the comments, and not attached to the mod. So a mod uploaded with simply MOD in the description is usually one that has been referenced in comments from a person doing a critique. There are other valuable contributors, not part of the Critique Team, such as Paul, who comment and will mod as required.

There are however occasional "hit and run" mods uploaded by someone who has left not comment anywhere. It doesnt happen often, but it can be an annoyance. You will find that Critique Team members, and the regular critiquers as mentioned, will NEVER leave a "hit and run"

And I rarely read the forums. I spend most of my free time helping people right here.

Pamela did read the forum, and her reaction was to what she read there. She is probably the straighest, most sobre (not as in not drunk) and truthful person you will ever meet. So perhaps poor communication is to blame, - not certain, but wave a red rag at a bull, be prepared for a reaction.

That might be a good subject for a photograph actually.

So, more about this shot. Was it taken through glass?

regards

No, not taken through glass, just tried to get as close as possible, I kept spooking the lizard, he would keep running, just then , he turned and looked directly at me so I took the shot.
Also please bear in mind that at present , I don't own a dslr, what I'm shooting with is a bridge camera, Nikon L820. Has a 30x zoom, but mostly all the rest of the settings are auto, except for white balance and ISO. I do however look forward to upgrading soon, and as well look forward to the new opportunities that this will bring. Thanks very much again, as I very much DO appreciate your time, and expertise.

Mark

Thankyou for the explanation, Mark, and I apologise for not reading the entire forum thread.

Pamela, sorry for not getting back here sooner, but I've been busy learning with a new camera. No apologies necessary at all, simply my inexperience with this site and a slight lack of communication. I welcome all critique including mods, and I do thank all of you for your time and expertise.

Cheers,

Mark
