Not bad John, not sure if this is down to noise or just a little over sharpening but just looks a tad flat to my eye`s. Its not a problem and have found that this can easily be sorted in PS.
Good to see others leaving that wideangle at home or in the bag for the odd landscape and it just goes to show that an horizon or patch of sky is not always needed

Thanks Paul, the image came out with a very narrow exposure, it was a bit misty after the rain and the far shore was a bit away, brought closer by the use of the longer lens. I have been playing with the curves and sharpening to pull more our out of the image.
Your point is good and I will play with the original image to see what I can get from it.
RE ISO I think the 300D starts to loose contrast as you up the ISO from 400 over, so its not the noise and also not being tripod mounted and hand held at about 1/60 does not help.
