Packing Up

By sut68
This man was coming to the end of a successful day flying his giant kite [there were a group of them, but none of the others seemed to step into the right place]. He's just about to pack up for the evening.

Taken this evening at Ainsdale beach - near Southport.

The sunset is good but it needs something in the foreground for it to work - it has this so it works for me!

Why do I never see light like this? A beautiful image, well seen and captured. It's hard to fault but there is a small light spot right on the left third of the horizon that once seen it continues to draw my eye.Regards Tony.

Cheers Tony - have noticed this myself. Having looked at the original, the spot seems to be a light on one of the many Oil & Gas rigs in the sea - maybe should have cloned it out??

Ant & Dec - Saturday night tv programme on ITV between 7 & 8pm.

Works for me! I've tried a few ideas like this but haven't managed to get the right sky with the right foreground interest as you have here! Well done! I love the colour contrast the kite provides against the colours of the sunset. Click!

Great shot! I've recently taken some of my friend on the North East coast buggying with a kite. It's a great subject.
That kite looks HUGE. It must be 9 foot or something!

Gorgeous colours seldom seen like this. The man and his kite give it life. Good use of the square format for your composition. Click.

A well very executed shot that has real atmosphere, I would also suspect that the usual grad filters etc that so many of use, have simply been left at home on this one, and it shows in the quality of the image, a totally natural evening sky.

I have to agree though the oil rig flame is a little distracting, but easily deleted.

I like this shot a lot, its simple but very effective in conveying that captured feeling of a great day coming to an end.

Well done Paul.

Cheers Ian.

I don't actually own any grads [yet], so yes this is a completely 'non-filtered' image, albeit with the levels 'tweaked' a little in PhotoShop.

Thanks for everyone's comments, I will take all criticisms and praise in equal measures - and hopefully put them to better use next time.

Regards
Paul.

Lovely evening light Paul and the inclusion of the man and kite adds to the beauty captured. All the best for 2006 when it comes.
