Arctic blizzard

By AnnChown
This was the furthest north we reached in Norway - a place called Honningsvag. Shortly after leaving here by boat, the captain made the decision to turn the boat around because of an impending Arctic storm. We were meant to go on further to the Russian border, but it wasn't to be - and we were 'homeless' for a few hours while we had to decide what to do and where to stay. It was very dark in this town - this was taken at midday, 12.23, and I took this handheld - f/5.6 (to allow enough light in), ISO 400 and 1/25 sec. The exif information relates to v1 only. v2 was taken in the same town a few minutes earlier.
Thanks for looking and for your time - a bit of a holiday snap, but with a difference, I hope! Smile
A big thank you to andylea for his UA for Arctic Light II.

Did you go up to the North Cape from here Ann? Both are more than just holiday snaps.

I agree wholeheartedly with Albert.
The small areas of colour in V1, especially the warm, bright electric glow, help to emphasise the severe weather brewing up around them. The plod through the snow in V2 speaks for itself!

Oh wow...LOVE how you've composed V1, Ann. What a great perspective especially with the placement of the lit window. When it comes to light, such a good contrast between the warm glow of the window and the surrounding freeziness!

V2 is a powerful shot. Almost like we're looking at a lone survivor in a disaster movie. So lonely.

Two wonderful images and definitely not holiday snapshots!

That glowing window light is like a little beacon of hope and welcome. Superb image.
We were at a talk yesterday, given by a couple who took the ferry up the Norwegian coast, stopping off at little communities - I guess very similar to your trip.
I'm green with envy...

The falling snow and the warm orange glow contrasting with the cool blue tones makes an excellent atmospheric image, Ann. I like the foreground symmetry with the boats in the background.

You've made the most of the lack of light Ann with some interesting images.

Ann you have truly captured a snowy day in Northern Norway - and you certainly were far north. I have never made it as far as Honningsvåg, but would love to - preferably in summer!

The warm glow inside that boat house certainly pulls a person in and makes one aware of the miserable conditions outside.

V2 is superb and I think a mono conversion might work with it.

Like moths we are drawn to the light in the window Ann. A little pool of light and a hope of some warmth too.
Better to return to harbour before the storm. Unlike the Stornoway ferry that got half way across the Minch in100mph winds before turning around.
Better safe than sorry.
