No Fishing !

By Taff
Been a long time since I posted (Sorry)

Saw a photo featuring Penarth Pier on here the other day and was 'inspired' to put a similar one up.

Was my old 'stamping' ground in my teenage years, spent many a drunken bank holiday afternoon scrapping with the mods and rockers!

Taken with a Canon 20D - was originally quite flat as it was a dreary day. Added brighter Sky, added Bluer (Is that really a word?) water - added a bit of motion blur to the water - tweaked a few colours.

Probably overdone it a bit - but hey, creative freedom and all that.

It's nice to be back.

Wish I could click on it. I love the whole feel of being pulled into the image, you sort of take a trip along the pier. It's a very clean image and beautifully presented.Love the way the sea and sky look slightly blurred too without overdoing it. I think it's really really good. Well done.

Hi Keith,

Thanks for the comments - really appreciated.

Don't understand why you can't click on it - been away for a while, have I done something wrong when uploading?

Its a first class shot and also well manipulatedm as others have stated it doesn't really need a crtique. Comments:

1. Clone out bunting
2. Top left of pic seems darker than rest
3. Lighten the foreground lamp
4. Darken the very bright clound mid off centre
5. Clone out blackboard on right hut.

These are all subjective however. Mike

The colours look over-saturated to me.

The polarizer is probably what's giving you the gradation in sky colour - it looks a bit odd given where the sun is.

I like the perspective; I wonder what would happen with an even lower viewpoint. I think I'd crop it tighter at the top.

I agree with most of the preceding comments, except that I think the bunting should be left in as it plays an important part in the image for me.

It provides just a hint of levity against an otherwise very forbidding image. "No Fishing", hard straight lines and a formal structured composition then, there in the distance, barely seen - two daft strings of bunting Smile

Its the critique gallery, - so no clicks and lots of critiques!

The water movement detracts from a good shot; I would have been strongly tempted to line up the shot with the lampost central so only one could be seen; top left needs to be a tad lighter; but very nice shot.
