Red-banded Hairstreak

Red-banded Hairstreak
Calycopis cecrops 3/4 -1 inch (19-25mm)

Rarely seen, but when found the Red-banded hairstreak can be seen in the mid Atlantic states especially at dusk, This butterfly is especially fond of sumac.

This tiny Hairstreak is similar in appearance and habit to the White M Hairstreak and the Northern Hairstreak previously posted.
