Spicebush Swallowtail

By taggart
Spicebush Swallowtail
Pterourus troilus 3 1/2--4 1/4 inches

One of our largest butterflies, the Spicebush Swallowtail lives in forest edges, meadows, fields and along streams---and occasionally is seen in gardens, mainly in the north-eastern USA. It likes Joe Pye weed, jewel weed and honeysuckle and, it appears, Purple Cone Flowers (echinacea)

Some Huge thanks yous are due to Martin, Nathan, Ron, Nezih and Lillian for their User Awards, and to all who gave their opinions---

Please forgive my indulgence-- I managed some 30 + shots of her before I got too hot and tired---and did not have time today to prepare something else! Enjoy!

Excellent detail and sharp as a tack, Jenn: fine capture of this butterfly and accompanied by an informative narrative.
But I did wonder at your using ISO 1000 when it gave you a shutter of 1/1600.
