White-breasted Nuthatch

By taggart
White-breasted Nuthatch
Sitta carolinensis. 5-6 inches

This non-migrating bird will often be seen climbing down a tree rather than up---in search of insects, etc. They are also regular visitors at our feeders in winter.

Thanks for attention to my recent images, especially to Philip for awarding two images today!

I've never seen this one Jenn. We have the common one that is seen on the site quite regularly. It's good to see different coloured ones.

This streamlined jet-setter lives in the fast lane. Good POV to show how streamlined he really is. TG

Probably more easily spotted that ours.

(A couple of years ago the nuthatches had taken over a bird box - using mud from the stream to make the entrance the correct size. One day a GSWoodpecker landed at the entrance and started pecking to get at the eggs. A nuthatch landed on its back and pecked it right between the shoulders. The GSW fell to the ground, recovered and flew away).

I have seen many birds which are new to me on this site, and this is another one; a right little beauty, and very well caught.
