This is a mono conversion of a previous upload..sorry bored whilst getting over this manflu!
Gareth prefers this much more than the colour version, myself I'm not sure
Darker... I'm still seeing Hamlet.
I agree it is darker, and Hamlet-esk but I would say I prefer the coloured version.
Get well soon.
I prefer the colour - it's so limited and it really works for me.
This is a good, strong conversion Nick but....colour for me,has so much more to say.
He looks more princely in colour. More bad boy in b/w.
A good mono conversion Nick but Colour for me too as the chair stands out better
Bland by comparison Nick.
The moment you start converting to mono you force a graphical enquiry , the relationship of structure over tonality perhaps.
The colour version had a much "easier on the eye" appeal , a nice subtle palette that worked well.
Anyway , both versions bash the flash and draw the eye a little to much to the ornate chair rather than the stare...
That chair was a pig Dave, it had a gloss coating that reflected everything. I even took an image with no flash just ambient light to layer in later, but that was just as bad just from the background lighting. Oh well got more sessions planned for later in the year - several other ideas. Must say this is one of those where the print looks so much better (btw I uploaded wrong version, numpty there's a minor flaw in this).
I've just been looking at a tutorial for something completely different that may help a little in toning them down
Fair enough mate ,
Id be shooting this with a neoclassical vision in mind , shoot the mood not the light Nick
Lights are new to me Dave, so I'm still on a learning curve. I played safe and just used softboxes (gridded) may have been better with a beauty dish.
