lighthouse

By CaroleA
Hi everyone and sorry I haven't been visiting your PFs lately. I've been away for a few days and am only just catching up with you all.

In the meantime, I uploaded my holiday photos and came across this one. It has got to be the quickest snap I've ever taken, and one which seemed to have the least potential, but when I saw it on-screen I kind of liked the overall effect: what do you think?

I took it hurriedly through a very rain-spattered and greasy ferry window in the middle of the most awful weather (there was no way I was going outside to take this!) just as we left Guernsey harbour on the way back from St Malo. I haven't done anything with it except frame it - you can probably see the rain spots on the window. I took a shot of a remarkably similar-looking lighthouse just as we left Jersey harbour (well it was a very long and convoluted return sailing) but somehow it wasn't as evocative as this one.

Comments and critique welcome, and don't worry: like I said it was just a snap. It's not as if I slaved for hours over the composition! Also I've had to fiddle around to be able to upload it so I'm not sure what it will look like on-screen!

I really like it. Its good to have photo's on bad weather days because it gives everything a different perspective.

I love the way you have framed this as well. Good photo.

Well, it looks like you spent some time-- It is just your natural eye, seeing the composition-- I too like this image-- and the frame suits-

Hope you had a good time!

I like this one. It looks to me as if there is a heavy fog rolling in off the sea. Nice shot.

I think this is extremely effective, particularly in the way you have presented it here.

Carole, like this one, great light of the "breaking-through quality" and the lighthouse very well placed in the composition - not sure about the black of epz?

Thanks everyone for your kind comments on a photo that surprised me - and guess what? I've found another that I thought was one of those you take then delete when you look at it on screen. Might upload that later - just to prove that sometimes, it's got nothing to do with skill, equipment and technology, but pure luck!

Anyway: thanks in particular to Alfred: I've changed the background because I think you might be right. White was wrong, and haven't tried the blue yet, but here's the grey version. Very appropriate colour, no?
