Mt. Kanchenjunga

By tashi
Good morning!
Hope you all are doing fine.

Glad to be here with another upload. I captured this shot yesterday morning. It is a view of Kanchenjunga, as seen from Gangtok town. Mt. Kanchenjunga is a part of the great Himalayan range. As it is, this peak is the third highest peak in the world (approximately 8,598 meters above sea level). It is located in Sikkim (India); and worshipped as a guardian deity by the original inhabitants of Sikkim. In fact there's an annual festival where monks perform mask dances as a part of worship rituals in different monastries of Sikkim.

By the way, the first highest peak, Mt. Everest (Himalayas), located in Nepal is approximately 8,848 meters above sea level, and the second highest peak Mt. K-2 (Godwin Austen) (Karakoram range) is approximately 8,611 meters above sea level.

As always, I thank you all for your lovely cs and vs on my last and earlier uploads.
With much appreciation,
Best regards.
Rani

We can get a better view of this peak from west Sikkim ... maybe in the near future I'll come up with a better version.

Meanwhile thanks to all of you for seeing the upload and the comments/votes.

Super pano Rani and interesting write up. This would look great enlarged framed and hanging on the wall. Kanchenjunga is a spectacular mountain. As a keen mountaineer I have only read about the early ascent of this peak in climbing books not least by Joe Brown. Congrats on producing my kind of photo. Love it! Paul

During the monsoons we are not so lucky; it's only after and before the monsoons that we are able to get such glimpses..... and .... monsoons can be terrible!

Thanks to all for the lovely cs and vs.
