Matt from Akercocke

By Taya
Akercocke were kind enough to allow me to photograph them on stage, little did I know how bad the lighting would be and how many times I would have to change the lens. I am not a fan of flash photography, more so the pop-up one I had to use. I've never used flash at a gig and this was the first time. I used slow-syn and moved the camera and lens about to achieve this effect.

PS work: Monochrome via channel mixer, then levels and curves with some burning!

1/50sec @ f/5.0 ISO 1600

C&C welcomed.

Thank You.

I can see why you put it in BW as the colour sats/exposure must have been wierd. Dunno about moving the camera around ...

I'd throw away an image that had the blur effect like that as I like them pin sharp, but we all have our style, so well done.

lol The colour one is weirder, but I liked the details on his face and hands, and it shows a lot passion. these are the only reason why I kept it.

I'll put the original in the mod section! I do prefer clear images, but it was a nightmare and I had to show the pics to the band, so I thought ok, lets try this!

Thanks,
Taya-)

I like this pic very much Taya, good use of slow sync which adds to the shot quite nicely. Think I prefere this B&W version. Nice one.

Thank You, Bilba and Paul.

This was a first for me, using flash! I didn't want that dead, dull looking pic, so by slow-syncing and moving the lens and camera about, created this effect and bled the lights around the scene! Was pleased with the colours!

Thanks again,
Taya

I do love this pic. Full of energy, as I imagine any performance by Akercocke would be.

Slow-sych isn't to everyones taste, but I love it when it's done right. I think you hit the nail on the head here.

Thank you! True about the slow-sync and tastes. This si the only type of flash I like, unless a stofen is used to diffuse the light without blwing the background colour out! I was close enough to knock with my lens!

The band was full of energy apart from Jason who was busy screetching down the mike, but, boy when he did get the opportunity, did he head bang, his hair looked cool! Unfortuntely, I wasn't in the greatest spot to capture it!

I'm still jealous...

Looks like my best opportunity to shoot them in Manchester is a non-starter. Sad
