Asian Swallowtail (Papilio lowi)

By teocali
Great day at RHS Wisley today attending the "MossyOak Masterclass" Wink A big thank you to Richard for helping me with the 7D settings and for lots of invaluable tips. Today's offering is an Asian Swallowtail Butterfly (Papilio lowi). Anyone planning a visit please note that if the glasshouse is very crowded you will be asked to use your tripod as a monopod and not splay the legs. Today was fine as there was plenty of circulation space, but weekends get pretty busy and half-term is looming as well!

Thank you all so much for your C&Cs on my last upload - very much appreciated and all critique and advice welcomed Smile

Particularly like the hi-key effect from the bg Sylvia. This one was a real challenge and very well positioned to get the uniform bg on this one. With such a bright bg you have done so well to retain and expose for the detail on the Swallowtail and dof is spot on
Great capture

A belter, Sylvia, and what a marvellous background to show off this beauty. Looking at your past images, I think you should be giving a 'Masterclass', your work is always stunning. Carol

You have captured some wonderful detail here on that fine background, this would have been difficult to meter as the background is so light but you have mastered it, superb work

we found our visit was hampered by people the inability to use the tripod and my shots are pretty much rubbish unless I could lean on something, not much around enabling me to do that but the butterflies were beautiful.
Great shot Sylvia
