Amaryllis (Hippeastrum)

By teocali
I've had this Amaryllis for four years now - it is called Christmas Star. After flowering I make sure it stays well fed, putting it out all summer in a hot sunny place to recharge its bulb, then dry it out from Sept - Nov and then bringing it in and getting it going by a little watering (water sparingly otherwise you get loads of leaves!). Hopefully should bloom at Christmas but mine is a little late this year!
Used RonnieAG's tip of photographing against the black TV screen.
Settings: AV F/2.8 1/8sec Ev -0.67 ISO640 handheld

Many thanks for your C&Cs on my Nuthatch upload and to Richard (MossyOak) for his great mods Smile

Lovely capture of this beautiful bloom, Sylvia. Superb detail and colours, and so nicely presented too.
Ronnie.
(PS. Glad you found my suggestion re. a backdrop helpful. R.)

Excellent closeup with lovely details and colours.
(with the three heads, it reminds me of the warning speakers you see in old war films!)

I was just about to write the exact same thing as tigertimb. Smile Definitely reminiscent of Soviet-era public address speakers and I feel so much more sane seeing somebody else say so!
